VBO V5 Deploy and Config Guide – Part 1

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the VBO V5 Deploy and Config Guide series on how to get started with Veeam Backup for Office 365 V5.

Today, we are going to look at how easy it is to install VBO V5 onto Windows Server 2019.

If you haven’t already, please see the below link to download a trial of the latest version of VBO.

If you don’t have a version of Windows Server 2019 you can get a Trial at the below.

Section 1: Pre-Requisites

Hardware:

CPU: any modern multi-core x64 processor, 4 cores minimum.
Memory: 8 GB RAM minimum. Additional RAM and CPU resources improve backup, restore and search performance.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 also requires a minimum size of 8 GB of RAM for VMs with dynamic memory allocation.
Disk space: 300 MB for backup proxy installation and additional free space for configuration database (depending on the amount of organizations, jobs and sessions) and backup proxy logs.

OS:

Only 64-bit versions of the following operating systems are supported:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2019
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012
• Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
• Microsoft Windows 10
• Microsoft Windows 8.x
• Microsoft Windows 7 SP1

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 server can be deployed on the following core editions:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2019
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016 LTSC, 1709
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Software:

The following software is required:
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later.
• Windows C Runtime and Update (UCRT) in Windows. For more information, see this Microsoft article.
• To use PowerShell cmdlets for backup and restore Windows PowerShell 2.0 or later is required. When using Windows 2012 or 2012 R2, Windows PowerShell 2.0 Engine must be installed regardless of the current PowerShell version.

Section 2: VBO Server Install

Step 1: Open your web browser of choice and navigate to: https://www.veeam.com/backup-microsoft-office-365.html

Step 2: Click on Download Trial

Step 3: Enter your Veeam credentials and click Sign In

Step 4: Once logged in click Download Trial

Step 5: Scroll down until you see Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 and click on Download

Step 6: Once downloaded find the Download (this may change depending on your browser, for this guide Chrome was used)

Step 7: Click on the arrow and select Show in folder

Step 8: Once the File explorer window opens right-click and select Extract All…

Step 9: Verify the extraction details and click Extract

Step 10: Once extracted you should see 4 MSI packages. Double-Click Veeam.Backup365_5.0.2.22 to launch

Step 11: On the Welcome to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Setup Wizard and click Next

Step 12: Accept the EULA and click Next

Step 13: Accept the default values and click Next

Step 14: One the validation screen click Install

Step 15: If you are running a machine that does not meet the minimum specifications then you will receive this warning. Select OK to continue the installation

Step 16: Sit back and enjoy the show

Step 17: Once the installation has completed click Finish to close the installer

Step 18: Double-Click VeeamExploerForExchange

Step 19: On the Welcome to the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange Setup Wizard click Next

Step 20: Accept the EULA and click Next

Step 21: Accept the default values and click Next

Step 22: One the validation screen click Install

Step 23: Sit back and enjoy the show

Step 24: Once the installation has completed click Finish to close the installer

Step 25: Double-Click VeeamExploerForSharePoint

Step 26: On the Welcome to the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint Setup Wizard click Next

Step 27: Accept the EULA and click Next

Step 28: Accept the default values and click Next

Step 29: One the validation screen click Install

Step 30: Sit back and enjoy the show

Step 31: Once the installation has completed click Finish to close the installer

Step 32: Double Click VeeamExploerForTeams

Step 33: On the Welcome to the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams Setup Wizard click Next

Step 34: Accept the EULA and click Next

Step 35: Accept the default values and click Next

Step 36: One the validation screen click Install

Step 37: Sit back and enjoy the show

Step 38: Once the installation has completed click Finish to close the installer

Step 39: Now let’s validate that VBO has installed successfully. Find the Veeam Backup for Office 365 icon on the desktop and double-click

Step 40: As we are using a default vanilla installation accept the default values and click Connect

Step 41: VBO will load now click the left-hand icon and click Help and Support

Step 42: Confirm that your VBO installation matches the below (5.0.2.22)
