What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible publicly alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Contact forms
If you get in touch via the contact form, the information you submit (such as your name and email address) is used solely to respond to your inquiry and is not added to any mailing list or shared with third parties without your consent.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter these details next time. These cookies last for one year.
Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Logging in sets several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, and screen options cookies last a year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie containing no personal data — just the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you’d visited that website directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the content — including if you’re logged into that website.
Analytics
This site uses Jetpack Stats and Google Analytics to understand visitor traffic and site usage, such as page views, referral sources, and general visitor behavior. This data is collected in aggregate and is used only to improve the site’s content and performance.

Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except where required by automated spam detection or comment/analytics services mentioned above.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue.
For registered users (if any), we also store the personal information provided in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you’ve provided. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, except data we’re obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
